Displaying Distance Travelled
Networking:
Determining the distance travelled
The distance travelled is calculated in the instrument cluster (A1) from the vehicle speed (by integration in accordance with time).
- To calculate the distance travelled and vehicle speed the computer of the instrument cluster (A1) evaluates the wheel speeds of the four wheel speed sensors (L6/1, L6/2, L6/3, L6/4). The instrument cluster (A1) receives the wheel speeds in "rpm" from the traction systems control module (N47) via the CAN engine compartment.
- To calculate the distance travelled and vehicle speed the tire size is also taken into account. The tire size is coded using the STAR diagnosis tool.
For evaluating wheel speed signals, refer to document " Displaying vehicle speed, function". Displaying Vehicle Speed
Displaying total distance travelled
- The 6-digit display in kilometers or miles in the basic display of the multifunction display (A1p13) appears as soon as the instrument cluster (A1) has been activated.
- The display range is 0 to 999999 kilometers or mile for the total milage recorder.
If the maximum reading is reached, the recorder is not reset to 0. The instrument cluster (A1) must be replaced in this case.
Displaying trip odometer
- The 5-digit display in kilometers or miles in the basic display of the multifunction display (A1p13) appears as soon as the instrument cluster (A1) has been activated.
- The display range is 0 to 9999.9 kilometers or miles for the trip odometer. The display is reset to 0 after the maximum reading is reached.
- Resetting trip odometer
The trip odometer is reset to 0 by pressing the reset button to 0 (right-hand button on instrument cluster (A1)).
Requirements.
- the instrument cluster (A1) is activated and
- the basic display (total distance travelled and trip odometer reading) is displayed in the multifunction display (A1p13).
Kilometer/miles switchover
The display of distance travelled can be switched over from kilometer to mile units via the settings function.
NOTE: If CAN values of all wheel speed signals are implausible the display values of the total mileage recorder and trip odometer are frozen and a fault bit is set. The current reading of the total mileage recorder is also placed on the CAN interior by the instrument cluster (A1).
Storing data
The total distance travelled remains stored for at least 5 years when the battery is disconnected
The trip odometer is also protected against data loss if the battery is disconnected briefly.
