Windshield Washer Pump: Description and Operation

Purpose
Provide washing water to the nozzles on the windshield and rear window.

Design
The washer pump (M5/1) has 2 hose connections.

Function
The washer pump (M5/1) is switched on when the rear window wiper switch (S6/1s4) or the windshield washer pump switch (S4s4) is pressed actuating the rear window wiper motor relay (M6/4k1).
The direction of rotation of the pump is changed by the windshield washer pump switchover relay (K26/2) depending on the switch pressed (S4s4 or S6/1s4) and washing water is pumped to the windshield or rear window by the washer pump (M5/1).

Location
The washer pump (M5/1) is located in the washing water tank in the engine compartment on the front left.
