Notes regarding checking operation of electrical components at steering wheel
Observe malfunction indicator lamp when steering is turned to full left and to full right lock when the engine is running. The indicator lamp must not come on or flicker.
Check the operation of the horns and the automatic cancelling of the combination switch.
B. Noise check/remedying noises
Apply light blows with your hand to the steering wheel rim to check whether any knocking noises occur. Noises are caused by the airbag unit having tilt or diagonal play on the steering wheel.
Remedy:
Slacken intorx screws with screwdriver bit and align airbag unit on the steering wheel so that it is positioned evenly. Screw in both intorx screws a few turns. Then, tighten left-hand screw to the specified torque (6 Nm). After this, pull airbag unit on the right slightly away from the steering wheel and tighten right-hand screw likewise to the specified torque (6 Nm).
