Corrosion at D-Pillar, Center Roof Paneling and in Rear Hinge Recesses
A. Corrosion at D-pillar and Center Roof Paneling
If you receive customer reports in the above vehicles of corrosion in the area of the D-pillar roof railing (1) (Figure 1) and chafes in connection area A (Figure 1) on center roof paneling (2) (Figure 1) and center paneling repair as outlined below, remedy with the relevant procedure below.
Procedure 1: Advanced corrosion extending into visible area
Remove corrosion in connection area on center roof paneling. See SM65.00-P-0010A.
Procedure 2: Severe corrosion or rust-through damage
In the event of severe corrosion or rust-through damage, Repair corroded body panels in connection area between D-pillar and center roof paneling. See SM65.00-P-0009A.
NOTE:
Always perform the work on both roof corners.
B. Procedure for Corrosion in the Rear Hinge Recesses
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of corrosion in the area of the hinge recess, perform the following to resolve.
1. Blow out hinge recesses using compressed air and clean with silicone remover.
2. Remove rust from affected points and prime with EP priming filler.
3. Seal folding area using MB body sealant. Refer to Parts.
4. Apply paint with a brush.
5. Apply MB cavity preservation wax.
