Tires - Tire Pressure Control System Reactivation

Date: November 2001

Order No.: P-B-40.10/39

Supersedes:

Group: 40

SUBJECT:
MODEL 215, 220

ACTIVATION OF THE TIRE PRESSURE CONTROL (TPC) AS PART OF THE

PRE-DELIVERY INSPECTION (PDI) ON NEW VEHICLES

In vehicles which are equipped with Tire Pressure Control (TPC), a reactivation of the TPC system is required when the tire pressure is changed, wheels or tires have been replaced or new tires installed onto the vehicle.

For example, when setting the proper tire pressures during the vehicle PDI, this requires the reactivation of the TPC.

In order to maintain a uniform procedure for the checking of tire pressures during the PDI, it is recommended that a reactivation of TPC is performed on the following vehicles:

Procedure for Reactivation of Tire Pressure Control

Models 215/220:

1. Set tire pressure on all four tires to the proper value (for tire pressure values, see label located on fuel filler flap).

2. Turn ignition key to position 2, but do not start the engine.

3. Using the left "menu" button (6, Figure 1) located on the steering wheel, call up the trip/main odometer.

4. Continue by pressing the left upper "page" button (4, Figure 1), until the tire pressure display appears in the display located in the instrument cluster.

5. Next press the "R" button on the instrument cluster and hold until the following message appears: "TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING REACTIVATE?".

Selecting "YES" reactivates the tire pressure control.

Upon setting the proper tire pressures and reactivating TPC, the tire pressure values will not be indicated in the instrument cluster display, thus it is necessary to drive the vehicle for a few minutes in order for the tire pressure values to be indicated in the instrument cluster display.
