Banging Noises from Rear of Vehicle when Driving on Rough Roads
If you encounter instances of banging noises from the rear of Model 220 vehicles, it may be caused by the trunk lid hitting the rubber stops (AR88.50-P-5125N, item 8).
For this reason, before trying any other repairs, check the fit of the trunk lid to the rubber stops and adjust if necessary. Lay strips of paper over the rubber stops on the rear fenders and close the trunk lid. If the paper strip can easily be pulled out, adjust the stops as follows.
Remove the moldings (AR88.50-P-5125N, item 2). Loosen the rubber stops (item 8), adjust and retighten. Check adjustment with paper strips and reinstall moldings.
