Safety shutoff of windshield wiper system (WSA)
The following safety precautions have been taken in order to minimize the risk of injuries:

1. If the engine hood is opened at a speed of less than 5 km/h, wiper function is immediately aborted. The wipers can operate again only after the engine hood has been closed.
2. If the engine hood is opened at a speed of 8 km/h, the wiper function is shut off only after the vehicle speed has dropped below 5 km/h. The wiper can only start again when the engine hood is closed again and/or the speed of 8 km/h is exceeded.
3. When a front door is opened and the wipers are not in the end position when c. 15R is switched on, wiper startup is suppressed. The position of the combination switch (S4) is of no relevance in this connection.
4. The intermittent wipe function is suppressed at a vehicle speed of less than 5 km/h if one of the front doors is opened.

For safety shutoff, the left front door contact switch (S17/3), the right front door contact switch (S17/4) and the ATA hood switch (S62) are read by the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and relayed over the control area network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B) to the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).

The speed signal is transmitted via the CAN-B from the instrument cluster (A1) to the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).
