Engine M271 Crankcase Oil Leak Through Cylinder Head Bolt Hole Threads

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of engine oil leak, please check for leaking through the casting pores into the no. 6 cylinder head bolt hole to the outside (which is open to the bottom) and seal the cylinder head bolt hole threads in the area of the oil filter flange per the below procedure to resolve.

1. Remove the camshaft housing. Refer to WIS document no. AR05.20-P-6995QK.





2. Remove cylinder head bolt no. 6 (Figure 1).

3. Clean out cylinder bolt hole no. 6 using brake cleaner and dry with compressed air.

4. Insert foam plug into cylinder head bolt hole to approximately 152 mm depth.

5. Perform a visual inspection of the foam plug for correct seating using a flashlight or lamp.

6. Fill plastic syringe with 1.5 ml of Loctite 5900.

7. Using the syringe, dispense the 1.5 ml of Loctite 5900 into hole.

8. Insert cylinder head bolt and tighten. Refer to WIS Doc. No. AR01.30-P-5800QK.

9. Install the rest of the parts in reverse order.
