Function:
If the vehicle is shifted into reverse gear while the windshield wiper is switched on, then the rear-end door wiper motor (M6/4) is also switched on. The function rear window wiping while reversing depends on the switch-on state of the windshield wiper system. Therefore the following functions are described depending on the switch position of the combination switch (S4).

Function prerequisites:
- Circuit 15R ON
- Windshield wiper in operation
- Backup signal from the electronic selector lever module control unit (N15/5) (on transmission 722) or from the backup lamp switch (S16/2) (on transmission 716)

Operating procedure
The backup signal is transmitted from the electronic selector lever module control unit (N15/5) over the Control Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B) or from the backup lamp switch (S16/2) via a separate line to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2). The rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) actuates the rear-end door wiper motor (M6/4).

Function sequence with combination switch (S4) in position "I" intermittent wiping

Without code (345a) rain sensor
The first wiping cycle is actuated immediately. Then the rear window wiper is operated in the intermittent mode. The intermittent pauses have a duration of 5 seconds.

With rain sensor with code (345a)
The first wiping cycle is actuated immediately. Then the rear window wiper is operated in the intermittent mode. The intermittent pauses are determined by the rain sensor (B38) or by the rain/light sensor (B38/2).

Combination switch (S4) in position "II" or "III" for slow or fast wiping
The first wiping cycle is actuated immediately. Then the rear window wiper is set to continuous wiping.
The function rear window wiping when reversing always has priority over the function rear window intermittent wiping.

Switching off rear wiper system
The function rear window wiping when reversing is switched off when the backup signal is no longer recognized or the windshield wiper system is switched off.
