As of Model Year 2003 Equipped with Audio 50 Head Unit
CD Player Information Error, Last Audio Mode Incorrect After Ignition Cycle, Head
Unit Lock Up, Telephone Signal Indicator Error and/or TeleAid Main
Speaker/Microphone Not Functioning
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the Audio 50 Head Unit (Figure 1) having any of the conditions on page 2, update the Head Unit software to version 04/06 using Service Update Disc part no. W211 589 12 22 00.
Conditions:
- When initiating a TeleAid services call, the TeleAid operator may not hear the user unless the operator switches to the back-up microphone/speaker system.
- Head unit CD player does not retain correct track information played prior to system shut down.
- Display locks up or freezes in any mode, various keys do not work.
- CD skips or hesitates.
- CD track or audio station information mismatch between head unit main display, the status line and the instrument cluster.
- The user mutes the audio and turns ignition OFF allowing the MOST and CAN buses to sleep, but the audio is incorrectly un-muted on its own after the vehicle is started again.
- Telephone signal strength meter display is inaccurate, the status line may incorrectly show full strength but the signal is weak.
Audio 50 Head Unit Software Update Procedure
NOTE:
The head unit disc player may require up to 10 seconds to recognize the service update disc and the software update process will take between 7 - 10 minutes to complete.
1. Power up the Audio 50 head unit.
2. Press the "Audio" hardkey.
3. Insert the Service Update disc into the head unit CD drive and wait until the head unit detects the disc, the software update process will start automatically.
4. After the software update process is complete, the head unit will power itself OFF and then restart on its own, do not touch any buttons this is normal.
5. Eject the CD when finished.
After updating the head unit, navigate through the following Star Diagnosis menu to check the software version. The software status should be 04/06.
- Select the correct vehicle model -> Control Units -> Information and communication -> Audio, video, navigation and Telematics -> COMAND / Audio - Audio 50 -> Control unit version
