Thumping / Knocking Noise Noticeable in Vehicle Interior
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of a thumping/knocking noise noticeable in vehicle interior, this may be caused by a pressure pulsation in the purge line from charcoal canister to the purge valve. To resolve, install a damper in front of purge valve per the below procedure.
1. Remove purge valve.
2. Disconnect electrical connector and purge line to charcoal canister and engine.
3. Remove rubber connecting piece of purge line between purge valve and purge line to charcoal canister and discard.
4. Install damper to purge valve by connecting the 8 mm rubber hose connector of the damper and secure with hose clamp (Figure 1).
5. Install damper/purge valve assembly behind left head light assembly. Connect the purge hose to the charcoal canister and to the engine and connect electrical connector to purge valve (Figure 2 and 3).
Warning!
Ensure that there are no kinks in the purge line and that connections are airtight. A leak in the purge line to the charcoal canister will result in an activated Check Engine Light.
6. Start engine and run at idle speed. After purge valve starts pulsating, check for thumping/knocking noise in vehicle interior.
