FLEXIBLE SERVICE SYSTEM PLUS (FSS +)

With the introduction of Model 211.065/070, a new more comprehensive method of determining the actual service date along with the exact service requirements for each individual vehicle has been developed. FSS + determines via measured values and variables, along with data stored in memory, the required service operations and due date for the vehicle. Via the + sign, which is displayed next to the service job display (A - H), the degree of brake pad wear is indicated. Thus the brake pad thickness must be checked during that service job.

Approximately 1 month before the service appointment is due, the multifunction display indicates to the customer which service is due via the letters A - H (Figure 1). Additionally, a mileage and/or time criterion based on selection can be displayed (Figure 1).

A "Service A" indication in the display is for a service job which will require approximately 1 hour to complete. The highest "Service H" will require approximately 8 hours to complete. Thus a more accurate daily shop labor time planning can be achieved.

To bring up the actual service job menu, which indicates the actual service work to be performed, the up and down keys located on the multifunction steering wheel are used, along with the reset button. Thereafter the Service menu appears. The service work required is listed numerically (Figure 2) and corresponds to the service jobs as listed in the FSS + Maintenance Sheet (P-2374-211-03A). Perform only those service jobs as indicated in the display.

Future FSS + capabilities:

In the near future a totally interactive version of FSS + will be introduced.

The vehicle will still display the "Service A - Service H" indicating the customer the approximate time required to perform the service due.

Upon arrival of the vehicle into the service shop, the vehicle is plugged into the Star Diagnosis System (SDS), and via the interface, the actual service (presented via individual documents) required will be visible via the SDS screen. Only the work as indicated by the vehicles' stored memory are to be performed. Thus the individual service requirements for each vehicle are determined and performed.
