TeleAid: Intermittent IC Display "TeleAid Defective: Visit Workshop"

If you receive customer reports in the above models where the instrument cluster will intermittently display TeleAid Defective: Visit Workshop" and the following DTC is set in the Instrument Cluster:

9117 - Fault in CAN communication with control unit Telecommunications

do not replace the Communications Platform (CP), as there might be a software conflict with the Instrument Cluster. Follow the below procedure to identify and correct the issue:

Step 1 - Connect SDS

Step 2 - Perform a short test and read out fault codes. Check for DTC 9117 in IC - Instrument Cluster. If status of code is "stored", proceed to Step 3. Otherwise, further investigate fault with CP.

Step 3 - Reference DTB P-B-82.95/253 dated June 27, 2003 to troubleshoot CP and make sure that CP is not affected by current technical issues.

Step 4 - Verify that service calls (SOS/Roadside/Information) can successfully connect. If problems with these service calls are encountered, please investigate these issues first before continuing.

Step 5 - If applicable, verify successful function of cellular telephone. If problems with the telephone are encountered, please investigate these issues first before continuing.

Step 6 - Enter the Instrument Cluster control unit by following the path:

1. Control Units

2. Information and communication

3. IC - Instrument Cluster

4. Control unit version

Step 7 - Verify the software version. If it is earlier than 04/03, and "TeleAid Defective: Visit Workshop" message continues to appear after checking the previous, then instrument cluster instead of CP needs to be replaced.

Step 8 - Disconnect SDS.

Step 9 - Replace instrument cluster:

1. Transfer the configuration settings from old IC to new IC using DAS.

2. Remove old IC and install new IC by using the correct procedure found in WIS.
