Component Identification:
The radio control panel (A2) is the central control panel for the entertainment and communications systems integrated in the vehicle within the Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST). It has a VFD display which is divided into 6 display fields for outputting information, such as function key assignment, function status and control menus.
At most, the following functions can be controlled:
^ Radio
^ Cartridge tape drive
^ CD player
^ Telematics (telephone, SMS, WAP)
The radio control panel (A2) can be operated by two main control fields, which are located on the left and right next to the display, as well as a rotary knob and a cross-shaped rocker switch
Several functions can also be activated with the aid of the multifunction steering wheel buttons. It should be noted that all pushbutton operations on the multifunction steering wheel are processed first by the instrument cluster (A1).
The instrument cluster (A1) links the incoming button actuations with the current menu position on the multifunction display and, where applicable, sends a corresponding CAN message via the Audio gateway control module (N93/1) to the Audio 20 CC.
MOST bus system
The digital components of the radio control panel (A2) are linked by the fiber optical cable bus system of the Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST). The bus system is used to transmit data (control commands and useful information) between the various system components.
Various bus systems have been installed because the individual components sometimes operate with different data formats or different specifications are placed on the transmission speed and reliability:
^ MOST fiber optical cable bus system
^ CAN-B (interior compartment)
^ CAN-C (engine compartment)
The conditions must be met for startup:
^ Ignition starter switch/circuit 15R ON
^ Voltage supply (on-board power supply 12 V) applied
^ System check (authentication) positive
System activation
The operating unit switches on when the rotary knob is pressed. The volume for the set audio source is regulated at the rotary controller. The function keys switch to the audio source desired by the user.
Operation of the radio control panel (A2) takes place via:
^ permanently programmed function keys
^ alphanumeric keypad
^ eject button
^ programmable function keys
^ rotary knob with integrated hands-free button
^ cross-shaped rocker switch with pushbutton
^ ON button
^ mute button
^ display
^ control buttons on multifunction steering wheel
The vehicle can be equipped optionally with an infrared remote control for issuing commands from the rear passenger compartment for telephone and audio functions whereby the operating convenience level can be yet again improved.
Interfaces
The CAN interior is used for data exchange with the instrument cluster (A1). In this way, the instrument cluster (A1) receives, via the audio gateway control module (N93/1) from the radio control panel (A2), the audio and telephone data for the multifunction display (A1p13) in A1, as well as the time via this bus.
The time can also be synchronized between the radio control panel (A2) and the instrument cluster (A1) via the multifunction steering wheel.
