Campaign No. 2005060009

July 2005

TO: ALL MERCEDES-BENZ CENTERS

SUBJECT:
MODEL 220, MODEL YEAR 2003

CHECK TRUNK LID LOCK AND REPLACE IF NECESSARY

This Service Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that on the affected vehicles (see VIN range below) the button opening the trunk lid supplies a resistance value not defined for the pneumatic control unit (PSE). This can result in the interior bus (CAN-B) being activated continuously resulting in an increased battery drain. The resistance values of the trunk lid lock will be checked and replaced if necessary during this Service Campaign.

Please review the Effective Serial Number chart shown and if necessary repair the subject vehicles during the vehicle's next service.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

^ Please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.

^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin.

Approximately 288 vehicles are affected.

^ Remove 4 screws (arrows), remove trunk latch cover.

^ Unclip trunk lid panel (1) from trunk lid.

5. Check resistance between the two pins (1 Figure 3) on the (yellow) trunk lid lock connector (arrow, Figure 3):

^ Push Button Actuated: Resistance between the two pins on the yellow connector: < 10 ohms.

^ Push Button Not Actuated: Resistance between the two pins on the yellow connector: > 1M ohm.

If the values are not within specifications replace the trunk lid lock.
