SUBJECT:
Model 220 (except 220.178) without Active Body Control (ABC), Model Year 2001 Suspension Message Displayed in Instrument Cluster
If you encounter instances in the above models where the vehicle does not lower and/or the following fault message is displayed after long freeway drive time (speed reduction), Pneumatic Suspension, Visit Workshop", please perform the following procedure. This applies to vehicles in the following VIN number range as of A196614 up to A271200.
Note:
Diagnostic Trouble Code C1517 (Stabilizing Times When Emptying Or Refilling Are Too Large) may be stored.
1) Remove the lower front right paneling. WIS document AR61.20-P-1105M
2) Disconnect connector on pressure relief valve (Figure 1).
3) Remove pressure relief valve by carefully pulling out the valve.
Note:
The pressure piston is pressed out by a spring.
4) Install replacement pressure relief valve.
Note:
Observe the installation direction. In order to verify proper orientation, it must be possible to push the pressure piston down flush with the edge of the housing against the pressure of the spring.
5) Reconnect connector to pressure relief valve.
6) Install the lower front right paneling.
7) Using STAR Diagnosis, perform a Short Test and erase all stored fault codes.
8) Verify proper suspension operation by raising and lowering the vehicle.
