Brakes - Groaning/Squeaking Noises

Brake Noise

In model year 2003, SL500 vehicles, if you encounter instances of groaning I squeaking noise from the brake lines when the brake pedal is activated, follow the below procedure. The noise may also disappear after the vehicle is driven for approximately 50 miles.

Procedure

Vehicle Condition Prerequisites:

^ Engine running

^ Vehicle at a standstill

^ SDS must NOT be connected

Bleeding Process:

^ Apply the brake pedal at least 25 mm but no more than 50 mm and then release the brake pedal but only to the 25 mm position.

^ Repeat brake pedal application in this manner at a rate of 1.5 to 2 applications per second.

^ You must achieve 30 to 40 brake applications per attempt.

^ Verify that the noise is gone by using the brake in a normal manner.

^ If the noise is still present, repeat the complete bleeding process.
