Brakes - Premature Rear Brake Pad Wear

Date: July 15, 2004

Order No.: P-B-42.10/48

Supersedes:

Group: 42

SUBJECT:
Model 211.026/065/070/082/083/265/282/283 up to 05/2004 production

Model 230.475 up to 05/2004 production

Increased Rear Brake Pad Wear

Note:
For Information Only

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the rear axle brake pads prematurely wearing and or the rear brake pads wearing out prior to a warning message in the instrument cluster being displayed, replace the rear brake pads with revised parts (reference WIS document AR42.10-P-1700R).

Note:
Premature wear is defined by the rear brake pads wearing out quicker than the front axle brake pads.

Note:
Since only the inner brake pad contains a brake wear sensor, it is conceivable that the brake warning message may not be displayed if the outer brake pad wears out.

Note:
The variable power distribution of the Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) system applies additional force on the rear brake pad than a conventional braking system. This may cause increased and uneven levels of wear on the rear axle brake pads.
