CHECKING FRONT AXLE CARRIER FOR DAMAGE
In certain vehicles, it is possible that the front axle carrier (Figure 1, 1) may be damaged or cracked (Figure 3, area "A"). If the condition exists, it will make itself known as a vibration, most likely occurring well beyond the first scheduled service appointment.
The specific affected vehicles are noted ("flagged") in VMI and are within the serial number range listed in the table below. Please inspect and if necessary repair the subject vehicles during the vehicle's next service.
Prior to performing this Service Campaign, please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously inspected and if necessary repaired.

CHECKING PROCEDURE
1. Prior to performing this Service Campaign, please review the entire document.
2. Drive vehicle onto the lift and raise vehicle in order to remove the engine compartment panel. See document in WIS: AR61.20-P-1105R
NOTE:
It is necessary to remove only the engine compartment panel (Figure 4, "B"), located below the engine, to perform the inspection.
3. Visually inspect the front axle carrier in front of the steering rack (Figure 2, in area "A").
NOTE:
If the front axle carrier is not damaged/cracked or deformed (note: deformation as shown in Figure 3, area "A"), this ends the inspection. Continue with Step 4 below.
If any cracks, damage or deformation (Figure 3, area "A") are present, continue with Step 5 below.
4. Reinstall removed engine compartment panel and lower vehicle.
REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
5. Replace the front axle carrier, see WIS document AR33.10-P-0001R
NOTE:
Transfer all detachable components onto the new front axle carrier as necessary.
6. Reinstall removed engine compartment panel and lower vehicle.
7. Start engine and turn steering wheel left and right. Thereafter, check fluid level in power steering pump (see WIS document AP46.00-P-4611N), check for any hydraulic oil leaks.
