Tire Monitor System - Implausible Fault Messgaes

DTB

Date: October 16, 2008
Order No.: P-B-40.15/62
Supersedes:
Group: 40

SUBJECT: Model 230.474/475, Up to VIN F016293
Implausible Fault Message in Instrument Cluster (IC) and/or Implausible Function of Body Electrical System

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of implausible fault messages in the instrument cluster (IC) and/or implausible function of body electrical system in which various warning and malfunction indicator lamps are switched ON and OFF cyclically and also the exterior lights may switch ON and OFF at random, the cause may be a hardware fault in the tire pressure monitoring system (TPM) control unit which can interfere with the CAN-B.

Depending on the duration of the malfunction, fault code (CAN communication interrupted) may be stored in the various control units (e.g. TPM, signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM), electronic ignition switch (EIS), lower control panel (LCP), vehicle power supply control unit (BNS), roll bar soft top control (RVC), automatic air conditioning (AAC) and instrument cluster with maintenance (ICM), etc.) which are networked to the CAN-B.

If CAN-B has current or stored events/faults as described above, this will cause malfunctions in the instrument cluster and on the display instruments (e.g. fuel gauge or temperature display is erratic). If the described symptoms are documented, replace TPM control unit (refer to WIS document AF40.15-P-6100A) with the specified tire pressure control module to resolve and erase any remaining CAN event codes stored in the above mentioned control modules if necessary.
