GF40.15-P-0001-05RA Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) Messages Relevant to Operation
GF40.15-P-0001-05RA Tire pressure monitor (TPM) messages relevant to operation
- with CODE (475) Tire pressure indicator
- as of 1.9.03 up to 30.5.04
Messages relevant to operation in the right multifunction display (A1p15) of the instrument cluster (A1) inform the driver that the air pressure in at least one wheel is changing or has changed. The tire pressure monitor symbol appears in the left multifunction display (A1p13). The messages ensue in "Red" (warning messages) or "Yellow" (information messages). Messages relevant to operation are stored in the TPM [RDK] control unit (N88) with an event code.
Messages relevant to operation describe a regular operating condition and in the case of a fault there is no reason to exchange system components.
The following messages relevant to operation can occur:
System messages
Red warning messages only ensue in the same ignition sequence. This system message is displayed in the next ignition sequence.
Information messages
If the air pressure in one or more tires drops > 0.2 but not > 0.4 bar below the pressure set by the driver and stored in the TPM [RDK] control unit (N88), this is displayed on the right multifunction display (A1p15) without specifying the tire location. The information message appears for the first time in the next ignition sequence.
The driver is therefore requested to check the tire inflation pressures, to correct them if necessary, and then to reactivate the tire pressure monitor system.
If the system is not reactivated, this information message appears repeated for approx. 30 seconds each time the engine is started and then goes out again.
Warning messages
If the tire pressure monitor system detects rapid pressure loss (> 0.2 bar/min) in one or more tires, the warning message above appears on the right multifunction display (A1p15). If the pressure loss only occurs in one tire, this message is displayed for as long as the position is not yet assigned.
The driver is requested to stop the vehicle immediately and to check all the tires for any foreign bodies which may have penetrated. The spare wheel should be fitted if necessary in the interest of driving safety.
Warning messages
If the air pressure in one or more tires drops > 0.4 bar below the specified pressure set by the driver and stored in the TPM [RDK] control unit (N88), this message appears on the right multifunction display (A1p15).
In addition this warning message is displayed when an activation order is rejected by the TPM [RDK] control unit (N88) due to implausible pressure values.
Implausible pressure values:
^ The tire inflation pressure adjusted by the driver is under the minimum pressure stored in the TPM [RDK] control unit (N88), a tire inflation pressure specific to a model series which must not be dropped below.
^ The pressure difference of the tire inflation pressures on an axle is > 0.4 bar.
Remedy:
^ Correct tire inflation pressures.
^ Reactivate tire pressure monitor system.
At the plant new vehicles are activated with a higher tire inflation pressure (approx. 3.5 bar). The TPM [RDK] control unit (N88) has stored these tire inflation pressures as specified pressures to be monitored.
By correcting the tire inflation pressure in the workshop this warning message is displayed in this ignition sequence. This is not a system error!
Warning message on left front wheels
These messages are possible depending on the wheel position (always in the right multifunction display (A1p15)):
^ "FR tire pressure, caution tire defect"
^ "RL tire pressure, caution tire defect"
^ "RR tire pressure, caution tire defect"
If a rapid pressure loss (> 0.2 bar/min) is detected in the tire by the tire pressure monitor system, this warning message (shown on the example of the left front tire) is displayed in the right multifunction display (A1p15).
The driver is requested to stop immediately and to check the respective tire for any foreign bodies which may have entered.
The spare wheel should be fitted if necessary in the interest of driving safety.
Warning message on left front wheels
These messages are possible depending on the wheel position (always in the multifunction display (A1p15)):
^ "Check tire pressure in the FIR tire!"
^ "Check tire pressure in RL tire!"
^ "Check tire pressure in RR tire!"
If the air pressure in one of the tires drops > 0.4 bar below the pressure set by the driver and stored in the TPM [RDK] control unit (N88), this is displayed on the right multifunction display (A1p15) (shown on the example of the left front tire)
The driver is requested to stop immediately and to check the respective tire for any foreign bodies which may have entered.
The spare wheel should be fitted if necessary in the interest of driving safety.
