Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Description and Operation
GF07.61-P-3004KE ME Fuel Supply, Function
- up to model year 08
Component Identification:
The fuel supply system makes an adequate quantity of filtered fuel from fuel tank available to fuel injectors for all operating conditions and at an adequate pressure (injection pressure).
The fuel pump draws the fuel out of fuel tank and pumps it through fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator to fuel injection tube connected to injection valves (single-line system).
The fuel pressure (injection pressure) is controlled to approx. 3.8 bar by pressure regulator.
Excess fuel flows from fuel pressure regulator back into fuel tank.
Fuel injection valves operated by ME control unit spray finely atomized fuel onto the opened intake valve on the respective cylinder.
If "abrupt acceleration" takes place (large scale removal of fuel) the fuel supply is achieved through acceleration enrichment and the fuel pressure damper.
The large-volume fuel rail prevents the formation of vapor bubbles.
