SERVICE: GROUP 00 OF SERVICE INFORMATION BINDER

Campaign No. 2005100008, November 2005

TO: ALL MERCEDES-BENZ CENTERS

SUBJECT:
MODEL 203, MODEL YEAR 2004
INSPECT BOOT ON BOTH FRONT DOORS

This Service Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that on the affected vehicles (see VIN range below) the boot at the door connecting to the "A" pillar may not have been clipped correctly leading to insufficient sealing. Dealers will inspect boot and if required, bend boot tabs to ensure a tight fit.

Please review the Effective Serial Number chart located below and if necessary repair the subject vehicles during the vehicle's next service.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

^ Please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.

^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin.

The 10 affected vehicles are listed below

Effective Serial Number Range

Note:
Every vehicle in the VIN range may not be included in the campaign. VMI must always be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the campaign is required on a specific vehicle. VMI always overrides the bulletin in reference to a specific vehicle's inclusion in a particular campaign. Please also note that Recalls and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Procedure

1. Open front door.

2. Inspect boot (arrow, Figure 1):

^ If boot (arrow) is not properly seated into A-pillar proceed to step 3.

^ If boot (arrow) is properly seated perform inspection on opposite front door.

3. Bend boot tabs (arrow, Figure 2) to correct position of tabs (using suitable tool).

Note:

^ Boot tabs must protrude out from boot to ensure that they clip (engage) into A-pillar when installed.

^ Figure 2 shows correct positioning of boot tabs (arrows).

4. Insert boot into A-pillar, ensure it fits tight against A-pillar.

5. Repeat procedure on opposite door.
