- with CODE (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is equipped with an integrated digital versatile disk (DVD) ROM drive for loading navigation data and for playing audio CDs.
CD changer mode (with code (819) 6-disk CD changer)
The CD player with changer (in the glove compartment) (A2/6) is controlled by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3). The control signals and the audio data from the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6) are transmitted by the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST).
Only 12 cm CDs may be loaded into the CD player with changer (in the glove compartment) (A2/6).
On vehicles with code (810) sound system, the sound amplifier (A2/13) is responsible for final amplification of the audio signals. The amplified signals are emitted via the vehicle's loudspeaker system. The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) provides, in conjunction with the CD player with changer (in glove compartment) (A2/6), the following functions:
- SCAN function
The title of a CD or the first title of the CDs of the entire magazine are played for 8 seconds. After this has been run through completely, the scan function is automatically terminated.
- Random function
All the titles on a CD or the entire CD magazine are played in accordance with the random principle.
- Repeat function
Alternatively a title, a CD or the entire CD magazine is repeated.
- Fast forward or reverse (music search)
The music played is audible during fast forward or reverse. Certain parts of a title can therefore be specifically played or skipped.
If the vehicle is equipped with the sound amplifier (A2/13), the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) must be coded accordingly with the aid of STAR DIAGNOSIS. Otherwise, faults occur with the reproduction of audio signals.
It is possible to load the navigation data first and then play an audio CD in navigation mode.
CD title allocation, function
Each CD contains a permanently stored table of contents (TOC entry). As a result, the operating unit clearly recognizes the particular CD, and is able to automatically name it after the one-time user allocation of the title (even if the CD is inserted in another CD insertion slot).
The table of contents (TOC record) additionally contains information regarding the number of tracks on a CD and the CD's total playing time.
