MODEL 203.7
- with CODE (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
MODEL 203.7 as of model year 09/Modification Year 08 model refinement package

Function requirements
- Status "Circuit 30 ON"
- Radio and navigation unit (A2/56) operating perfectly
- Up-to-date navigation data available
- Vehicle is underway and destination-oriented navigation is active

General
The route guidance through voice output function is an assistance function that assists the driver without distracting him from the traffic. The destination-oriented navigation of the navigation system is supported by voice outputs with the following information:
- Direction information
- Name of road onto which the next turnoff should be made

Voice data are originally stored as individual word segments on the navigation CD. This data record is automatically transferred from the CD into the navigation processor and stored there. The radio and navigation unit's navigation processor connects these word segments to form complete instructions or information and generates corresponding low frequency signals.

While a language is being loaded from the CD, severe physical shocks (e.g. on poor road surfaces) are to be avoided. Otherwise voice output may be given in fragments. In such an instance the language should be loaded again.

Several route recommendations in quick succession are combined to form a single voice output.

Voice output can be emitted in the following languages:
- German
- English (UK and USA)
- French
- Spanish
- Italian
- Dutch
- Danish
- Swedish
- Portuguese

Loading a language requires several seconds and changes the voice output as well as the menu texts on the display. Voice loading takes place again automatically after a power disconnection.
The route guidance using voice output can be divided up into the following subfunctions:
- Function sequence for volume control of voice output
- Voice output function sequence

Function sequence for volume control of voice output
The following cases should be distinguished:
- Superimposition of voice output and an audio source.
- Manual volume control of voice output
- Voice output mute circuit

Superimposition of voice output and an audio source.
When voice output is active at the same time as an audio source (e.g. CD, radio), the two signal sources are superimposed. A definable difference (can be modified in "Settings" menu) is maintained between the volume of the current audio source and the voice output volume. If for this reason the volume level for the audio source had to be reduced during the voice output, then once the voice output is finished the level is raised again.

Manual volume control of voice output
The voice output volume can be adjusted during voice output. A definable difference (can be modified in "Settings" menu) is maintained between the volume of the current audio source and the voice output volume. The volume of the voice output cannot be regulated to less than a specific minimum level.

Voice output mute circuit
The navigation voice output can be muted during voice output by pressing the mute button (button marked with struck-out speaker). Muting is only valid for the current voice output. When navigation voice output and an audio source (e.g. CD, radio) can be heard simultaneously, the navigation voice output is muted when the mute button is pressed for the first time and the complete playback is muted when the mute button is pressed for the second time.

Voice output function sequence
Voice output in vehicles with code (810) Sound system, takes place in the following way:
- Radio and navigation unit
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
- Amplifier for sound system (N40/3)
- Direct line
- Speaker

For vehicles with CODE (810) Sound system, the following speakers are installed: left front door speaker (H4/1), right front door speaker (H4/2), left rear door speaker (H4/5), right rear door speaker (H4/6), left front door speaker, mirror triangle (H4/23), right front door speaker, mirror triangle (H4/24), center cockpit speaker (centerfill) (H4/27), subwoofer speaker (H4/29), left rear surround speaker (H4/54), right rear surround speaker (H4/57)

For vehicles except code (810) Sound system, the voice output is routed by the radio and navigation unit over a direct line to the following speakers:
- Left front door speaker
- Right front door speaker
- Left rear door speaker
- Right rear door speaker
- Left front door speaker, mirror triangle
- Right front door speaker, mirror triangle
