Note:
Retrofitting the trunk lid valet lock is a customer pay matter. Do not submit a warranty claim for retrofitting the trunk lid valet lock.
NOTICE!
Incorrect installation of connectors can result in damaged, bent pins.
Damaged, bent pins will result in component malfunction or failure.
Inspect connectors before and after installation.
A. Preparing for the Installation
1. Read these installation instructions in their entirety before proceeding.
2. Unpack and compare the installation parts against the Parts Information list in Section E.
3. Open the trunk.
4. Remove the trunk lid paneling.
^ See WIS document AR68.30-P-8150Q, Remove/install trunk lid paneling"
5. Remove the trunk lid lock.
^ See WIS document AR88.50-P-5020Q, Remove/install and adjust trunk lid lock and locking eye"

B. Retrofitting the Trunk Lid Valet Lock
1. Remove the tab from the housing above the trunk lid lock tumbler:
a) Score the tab several times along its base (Figure 1).
b) Use side cutters to finish cutting through and removing the tab from the housing.
NOTICE!
Excessive force will crack or break plastic.
Applying excessive force while removing the tab can crack or break the plastic housing.
Do not use excessive force when removing the tab from the housing.
2. Insert the microswitch (Figure 2) for the trunk lid lock into the cavity in the side of the housing.
3. Cut off a 1,900 mm length of brown wire.
4. Strip off % inch insulation from the ends of the brown wire.
5. Crimp one of the three crimp pins (A, Figure 3) onto one of the stripped-offends of the brown wire.
6. Crimp the ground connector (B, Figure 3) onto the other stripped-off end of the brown wire.
7. Cut off a 2,200 mm length of black wire.
8. Strip off 1/4 inch insulation from the ends of the black wire.
9. Crimp the remaining two crimp pins onto the stripped-offends of the black wire (C, Figure 3).
10. Unlock the crimp lock (Figure 4) of the connector for the trunk lock microswitch.
11. Insert the pin (A, Figure 3) of the brown wire into pin 1 (A, Figure 5) of the connector for the trunk lid lock microswitch.
12. Insert a pin (C, Figure 3) of the black wire into pin 2 (B, Figure 5) of the connector for the trunk lid lock microswitch.
13. Lock the crimp-lock connector.
14. Wrap the brown wire and black wire together with electrical tape starting 30 mm (A, Figure 6) from the connector (B, Figure 6) for the trunk lid microswitch back 1 600 mm (C, Figure 6).
15. Secure the newly-made wiring harness with wire ties to the existing wiring harness running along the trunk lid behind the trunk lid lock.
16. Route the new wiring harness up through the cable passage (A, Figure 7) between the trunk and trunk lid.
17. Continue running the new wiring harness into the opening (B, Figure 7) at the bottom, left of the trunk lid and out the opening (C, Figure 7) above.
18. Continue running the new wiring harness along the existing wiring harness (A, Figure 8) running up the left side of the trunk lid, into the opening (B, Figure 8) above, and out the opening (C, Figure 8) for the trunk lid lock.
19. Secure the new wiring harness with wire ties (A, Figure 8) to the existing wiring harness running up the left side of the trunk lid
20. Route the new wiring harness end leading into the trunk and secure it with a wire tie (A, Figure 9) along the existing wiring harness at the left side of the trunk.
21. Continue running the new wiring harness to the rear of the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (B, Figure 9).
22. Connect the brown wire of the new wiring harness to the ground-point (C, Figure 9) rear of the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module.
23. Connect (Figure 4) the new wiring harness to the microswitch (Figure 2) for the trunk lid lock (Figure 10).
24. Reinstall the trunk lid lock.
See WIS document AR88.50-P-5020Q, "Remove/install and adjust trunk lid lock and striker eye"
25. Remove connector 21 (Figure 11) from the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module.
26. Remove the housing from connector 21.
27. Connect the black wire (C, Figure 3) of the new wiring harness to pin 18 of connector 21 (D, Figure 9).
28. Reinstall the housing onto connector 21.
29. Reconnect connector 21 to the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module.
C. Function Testing and Final Assembly
1. Reinstall the trunk lid paneling.
^ See WIS document AR68.30-P-8150Q, Remove/install trunk lid paneling"
2. Reinstall the paneling on the left side of the trunk.
^ See WIS document AR68.30-P-4600QA, Remove paneling in trunk"
3. Check the DTC memory of all installed components and components in the trunk.
4. Investigate and identify any present DTCs.
5. Correct the source of the DTCs.
6. Clear the DTC memory.
Note:
Powering up the newly installed system prior to version coding will set errors. Ignore these errors during the initial DTC check. If the DTCs return after clearing, a configuration error is present. Locate and correct the error.
7. Confirm no new DTCs are present in components in the trunk.
8. Verify proper trunk operation per the following checklist:
> With the trunk lid lock tumbler in the neutral position (A, Figure 12), verify the trunk will open when:
^ Actuating the switch on the driver's side door panel
^ Pressing the trunk lid button on the license plate recess
^ Pressing the trunk button on the SmartKey
> With the trunk lid lock tumbler in the locked position (B, Figure 12), verify the trunk will not open when:
^ Actuating the switch on the driver's side door panel
^ Pressing the trunk lid button on the license plate recess
^ Pressing the trunk button on the SmartKey
> With the trunk locked or unlocked, verify the trunk will open when:
^ Pressing the trunk lid emergency release switch
