MODIFICATION OF WATER DRAINS IN LEFT/RIGHT FRONT WHEELHOUSES





In certain vehicles, it is possible that the water drains located in the front wheelhouses (arrow, Figure 1) may not drain water properly.

The specific affected vehicles are noted ("flagged") in VMI and are within the serial number range listed in the table below. There are approx. 2,640 vehicles affected. Please inspect and if necessary repair the subject vehicles during the vehicle's next service.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign, please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously inspected and repaired.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Prior to performing this Service Campaign, please review the entire document.

2. Drive vehicle onto the lift (a 2-post frame contact lift is recommended) and turn steering wheel to the left. Then lift vehicle as necessary.








3. Visually locate the screws and rivets (arrow, Figure 2) which secure the L/H fender liner, then loosen and remove nut and rivets (arrows, Figure 3). Additionally, remove two screws located just behind and underneath the arrow as shown in Figure 2.





4. Using an assembly wedge (MBUSA Special Tool: W900 589 01 77 00 or W900 589 02 77 00) carefully push the L/H fender liner away from the fender lip (Figure 4).

Locate the wheelwell water drain nozzle (arrow, Figure 4).

5. Loosen the nuts which secure the wheelwell water drain nozzle to the wheelwell housing and remove and discard the drain nozzle (arrow, Figure 4).

6. Check and ensure that there are no obstructions in the water drain passage of the wheelwell housing.

7. Reassemble the left hand fender liner.

8. Turn steering wheel completely to the right.

9. Remove water drain grommets on right side following the same procedure (steps 3 - 6)

10. Reassemble the right hand fender liner.
