COMAND(R) Unit - CD Stuck in Head Unit When Updating

SD Flash Telematics CD Stuck in COMAND Head Unit When Performing a Software Update

In the above model vehicles if you experience the COMAND head unit not ejecting the SD Flash Telematics CD after the update or the head unit does not properly initiate the software update process, the COMAND software "Watch-dog" must be deactivated. This erroneous behavior is detected when the display flap on the head unit keeps going up and down without the possibility to eject the disc or when the display flickers constantly.

Note:
Always ensure that the applicable patches are installed onto Star Diagnosis.

A) Deactivate the software "watch-dog" using the step's below:

1. Press and hold down the key combination in this sequence Mute+4+0 for about 8 seconds.

2. Look carefully into the head unit CD player slot, observe as the slot illumination is flashing.

3. If you confirm that the slot is flashing, this means the update will take place.

4. If CD player slot does not illuminate, contact the Technical Assistance Center for further assistance.

Upon completion of Head Unit software update, eject and retrieve the disc from head unit as prompted by Star Diagnosis.

B) Activate the software watch-dog using the steps below:

1. Press and hold down the key combination is this sequence Mute+4+2 for about 8 seconds.

2. Look carefully into the head unit CD player slot, observe as the slot illumination stops flashing

Note:
If the COMAND Head Unit does not function correctly after the update or the disc player exhibits reading/playing errors, the head unit must be replaced.
