GF82.70-P-0004R Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) Function
- with CODE (388) "Portable CTEL" UPCI telephone system
- with CODE (386) Preinstallation for "portable CTEL" UPCI telephone system
- except CODE (498) Japan version
Function requirements:
^ No overvoltage or undervoltage
^ Enabled SIM card
^ Correct PIN entry and successful registration
When using the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system, all calls made with the portable CTEL (A34/6) are hands-free.
The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system allows different portable CTELs (A34/6), e.g. Nokia, Siemens and Motorola to be used in the vehicle. This is done by replacing the respective UPCI (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) portable CTEL holder (A34/15).
The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system consists of the following components:
^ UPCI (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) portable CTEL holder (A34/15)
^ UPCI (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) control unit (N123/1)
^ Telephone antenna (A2/22)
^ Telephone/portable CTEL/STH radio remote control antenna splitter (A2/53)
^ E-net compensator (A28/3)
^ Portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ Handsfree microphone (B25)
^ Radio (A2) or with code (352) COMAND operating and display system from the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).
The respective portable CTEL (A34/6) is connected to the Digital Data Bus (D2B) of the vehicle via the UPCI (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) portable CTEL holder (A34/15).
The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system consists of the following functions:
^ Setting up telephone connections in hands-free mode.
^ Displaying phone numbers and caller ID.
The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system is activated using the On/Off button of the portable CTEL (A34/6). Automatic activation is also possible using a wake-up pulse via the Digital Data Bus (D2B). This can be initiated via a status of "circuit 15 ON", the radio (A2) or with code (352) COMAND operating and display system via the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3).
The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system is deactivated using the On/Off button of the portable CTEL (A34/6) or automatically after the run-on time that is set using the portable CTEL (A34/6).
Voice input is made using the hands-free system microphone (B25) and voice output is made via the audio speaker system. In order to do this, the portable CTEL (A34/6) must be inserted into the UPCI (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) portable CTEL holder (A34/15). A number of displays that inform the user of the operating condition (e.g. "ENTER PIN") of the portable CTEL (A34/6) appear in the displays of the following components:
^ Portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ Left multifunction display (A1p13) and right multifunction display (A1p15) in the instrument cluster (A1)
^ Radio (A2) or with code (352) COMAND operating and display system in the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3)
In order to ensure that the voice input that is made by the user via the hands-free system microphone (B25) is as clear as possible, the volume of any active audio sources (such as the radio (A2)) is automatically muted during a telephone call.
The volume of the hands-free system can be individually adjusted by the user. This is possible using the buttons + and -, setting of specific functions and volume control (S111s1), that are integrated in the multifunction steering wheel (MFL) or via the portable CTEL (A34/6). In order to do this, the respective portable CTEL (A34/6) must be inserted into the UPCI (Universal Portable CTEL Interface) portable CTEL holder (A34/15). The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system can also be operated using other buttons on the multifunction steering wheel (MFL):
^ Scroll forward/back pushbutton (S110s1)
^ System select pushbutton (S110s3)
^ Accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3)
This is indicated by a number of displays that inform the user of the operating condition (e.g. "ENTER PIN") of the respective portable CTEL (A34/6) and appear in the displays of the following components:
^ Portable CTEL (A34/6)
^ Left multifunction display (A1p13) and right multifunction display (A1p15) in the instrument cluster (A1)
^ Radio (A2) or with code (352) COMAND operating and display system in the display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3)
The Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI) system is D- net and E-net compatible. This is made possible by installing the E-net compensator (A28/3), which compensates for the attenuation that occurs because of the higher frequency of the E-net.
