Operating procedure
Basic requirements:
- The exterior lamp switch of light switch module (S1) is set to" 0".
1 The engine is started.
2 At"circuit 15 ON" the electronic ignition switch control module (N73) sends the country code and the instrument cluster (A1) the "daytime running lamps activated" signal over the CAN interior to the front SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/1).
3 The alternator (G2) transmits the CAN message that indicates that the engine is running with "circuit 61", and then the front SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/1) starts the evaluation of all the signals that are present.
5 The front SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/1) activates the actuation of the headlamps. A signal is not pending at the exterior lamp switch (S1s1).
The daytime driving lamp is not activated if the exterior lamp switch is in position "Side light ON" or "Headlamps ON". The "Auto" position of the exterior lamp switch has no function when the daytime running lamps are activated.
6 The low beam and standing lamp in the left front headlamp unit (E1) and right front headlamp unit (E2) is actuated and the "standing lamp ON" signal is sent simultaneously over the CAN interior to the rear SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/2).
With the headlamps on, the low beam and standing lamps are always actuated together.
7 The rear SAM control module with fuse and relay module (N10/2) actuates the taillamp and parking lamp (E3e2 and E4e2) and the left license plate lamp (E19/1) and right license plate lamp (E19/2).
Automatic switching off of the daytime running lamps on vehicles for up to 31.6.02
Actuation of the daytime running lamps is canceled if after starting the engine a drive position is not selected within t = 3 min.
Automatic switching off of the daytime running lamps on vehicles for (CDN) as of 1.7.02
When the vehicle is at a standstill the daytime running lamps are switched off after t = 3 min. A change from 0 to 1 in the instrument cluster (A1) will always actuate the daytime running lamps; the timer is reset.
Manual switching off of the daytime running lamps on vehicles
for (United States of America) as of 1.7.02 By turning the exterior lamp switch (S1s1) to "standing lamp" or "headlamps" the automatic daytime running lamp function is deactivated.
Manual switching off of the daytime running lamps on vehicles for (CDN) as of 1.7.02
By turning the exterior lamp switch (S1s1) to "headlamps" the automatic daytime running lamp function is deactivated.
The following chart lists the country-specific differences of the daytime running lamps.
