Location
The UPCI [UHI] control unit is located on the right in the trunk on the wheel well.

Depending on the equipment installed one of the following control units will be installed, hereafter referred to as the "audio unit":
- Radio (A2), with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio
- Radio and navigation unit (A2/56), with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
- COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3), with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)

Receiving signals
- Direct lines
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)

Direct lines
- Power supply via circuit 31 and circuit 30g over one direct line each
- Electronic wake-up for MOST over discrete line
- Mobile phone signals and data over the screened wiring harness from the UPCI [UHI] cell phone holder (Universal Portable Cell Phone Interface) (A34/15)
- Voice signals from handsfree system microphone group A67b1) over a direct line, except code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS])

MOST
The UPCI [UHI] control unit is a MOST subscriber. It forms the interface between the cradle and the MOST and receives signals from the following components:
- "Audio unit"
- Voice control system control unit (A35/11), with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS])

Conversion of signals
- Converter for converting electrical signals into optical signals and vice versa

Transmitting signals
- Direct lines
- MOST

Discrete lines
- Switch-on/switch-off signal to E-net compensator (A28/3) and to cradle
- Mobile phone signals and data over the screened wiring harness to the cradle

MOST
The UPCI [UHI] control unit sends signals to the following components:
- "Audio equipment"
- Voice control system control unit, with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS])
