GF82.60-P-3116FAA Radio Control Panel, Component Description

MODEL 203.7
- with CODE (523) MB Audio 20 radio
MODEL 203.7 as of model year 09/YoM 08 model refinement package

A2 Radio

Location
The radio is installed in the 2-DIN recess of the center console.

Task
The radio is used to centrally control the following systems:
- Radio with
- FM/AM single tuner, supports radio data system (RDS) and traffic announcement detection
- Basic audio amplifier
- CD drive
- Interface between Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) and interior CAN

- Amplifier for sound system (N40/3), with code (810) Sound system
- CD player with changer (in glove box) (A2/6), with code (819) 6-disk CD changer
- Universal Portable Cell Phone Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit (N123/1), with code (386) Mobile phone

In the process, the radio reads in the following signals via direct lines:
- Circuit 30
- Circuit 31
- Wake-up (bidirectional)
- Telephone MUTE, with code (386) Mobile phone
- AUX input
- Window antenna amplifier module 2 (A2/72)

In the process, the radio processes signals and transmits the following output signals via direct lines:
- Signals for speaker
- Antenna switching voltage

In the process, the radio receives, processes, and transmits signals via the following data buses:
- Interior CAN
- MOST

Design
- Control panel
- Vacuum fluorescent display
- CD drive
- Control electronics

Function
A distinction is made between the following functional areas:
- Operating elements
- CD ROM disk drive
- Display
- Traffic information
- Off-board diagnosis, STAR DIAGNOSIS

Operating elements
The control buttons and switches of the function keypad in the radio are read in by the microcontroller and supplied to the central computer. The button inputs are processed further in the central computer and transmitted via MOST or interior CAN in the form of a data telegram.

If the "ON" button on the combination push and rotary button is pressed, the radio switches on. In each case the volume can be regulated with the pushbutton rotary switch for the audio source active. The main function keys switch over to the audio source desired by the user.
If the user presses the "Sound setting" function key, the following presettings can be changed:
- Bass
- Treble
- Balance
- Fader
- Volume
- Traffic messages
- Surround sound

Using the "Mute" function button, the audio source currently being listened to is muted. The output signal from the radio is suppressed, and the CD disk drive goes into pause mode. If the user presses the right side of the cross-shaped rocker button (cursor button), a telephone call is answered. If the user presses the left side of the cross-shaped rocker button (cursor button), a telephone call is ended.

The number block can be used for the following:
- Entering required telephone number
- Calling up or saving a radio station
- Direct entry of a radio frequency
- Selecting a CD
- Direct entry of a CD track

The cross rocker switch (cursor button) can, for example, be used for searching in the telephone book or to carry out fixed programmed commands of the respective function level. If the user presses one of the two "Search" function keys, this function is carried out in the current function level.

CD ROM disk drive
The radio is equipped with a CD drive. All sound and volume adjustments are made using the combination push and rotary button.

Display
The following function groups are shown on the display:
- Autostore
- Automatically station search
- Radio data system (regional)
- Select and play back track randomly (Random)
- Repeat track
- Skip empty band
- Traffic Message Channel (TMC)

User information:
- Arrival of an SMS message

Function status:
- Mobile phone, function status active

To be able to see the information in the display better, a continuously variable brightness adjustment is possible using the cross-shaped rocker button.

Traffic information
The way the radio responds when a traffic message is received depends on the current function status. Traffic messages are ignored if the user has not activated the "traffic information" function. If traffic messages are accepted, the radio switches to the "DISPLAY TRAFFIC MESSAGES" function and shows the "INF" symbol on the display.
At the end of the traffic message, the display changes back to the function status active beforehand, the volume being adjusted back to the last selected level.
The volume of the messages corresponds to the current preset. The station name is also displayed.

Off-board diagnosis, STAR DIAGNOSIS
The radio has its own fault memory. When querying the fault memory with the aid of Star Diagnosis, the data is read out at the interface of the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) via the interior CAN. It is not possible to output faults via the display.
