Location
The handsfree microphone group is installed in the interior rearview mirror unit.

Depending on the equipment installed one of the following control units will be installed, hereafter referred to as the "audio unit":
- Radio (A2), with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio
- Radio and navigation unit (A2/56), with code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
- COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3), with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)

Receiving signals
- Reception of acoustic (audible) signals in the form of sound waves
- Circuit 31 from "audio equipment" over the Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) and the voice control system control unit (A35/11), with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS])
- Circuit 31 from UPCI [UHI] (Universal Portable Cell Phone Interface) control unit (N123/1), with code (386) Mobile phone, except code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS])

Converting signals
- Conversion of audible signals into electrical signals (frequencies)

Transmitting signals
- Transmission of electrical signals (frequencies) to the "audio equipment" over the voice control system control unit, with code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS])
- Transmission of electrical signals (frequencies) to the (UPCI [UHI]) control unit, with code (386) Mobile phone, except code (813) Voice control system (VCS [SBS])

The electrical signals (frequencies) are also screened separately to and from the "audio equipment".
