GF82.85-P-2012FAB Navigation Mode, Function

MODEL 203.7
- with CODE (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio
MODEL 203.7 as of model year 09/Modification Year 08 model refinement package

Function requirements
- Status "Circuit 30 ON"
- The radio and navigation unit (A2/56) is switched on, authorized and operates perfectly
- Fault free global positioning system (GPS) reception

General
The navigation module including the navigation processor and CD drive for the digital map data is integrated into the radio and navigation unit. The navigation system includes these functions:
- Position finding
- Route planning, route calculation and destination-oriented navigation
- Display of navigation maps
- Intersection zoo
- Visual driving instructions in form of pictograms
- Acoustic driving instructions through voice output

The location of the vehicle, as well as the direction and distance to the destination (after entering the destination) are determined with the aid of the navigation system.

The navigation system is used to calculate the data required to reach the destination (navigation) and the progress towards the destination is assisted by visual and acoustic driving instructions.

The following subfunctions are described in separate documents:
- Position finding and destination-oriented navigation, function
- Route guidance through voice output, function

Operating instructions
The system can be activated or deactivated or the destination and street can be entered using the following components:
- Control panels on the radio and navigation unit
- Voice control

The control signals are processed within the device for entries made using the control panels on the radio and navigation unit.

The voice input takes place via the handsfree system microphone group (A67b1). Words spoken into the handsfree system microphone group are converted into an electrical signal and routed as follows to the radio and navigation unit.
- Direct line
- Voice control system control unit (A35/11)
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)

Function sequence
The function is divided into the following processes:
- Destination entry
- Position finding
- Route calculation
- Destination-oriented navigation

Destination entry
The destination is entered menu-assisted on the radio and navigation unit and is processed by the navigation processor.

The user can enter the destination in the radio and navigation unit in the following ways:
- Address entry
- Position entry
- Destination memory
- Destination via map
- Special destinations (e.g. railroad station, airport, etc.)
- Travel guide

When entering the destination and street a predictive speller is also active. During entry of the destination, letters not yet entered are supplemented from a list. The added characters are highlighted in black. Deletion is done by character.

The "Special Destinations" menu is supplemented by the "Bypassing other Locations" and "National Destinations" submenus. The "National Destinations" menu is subdivided into an additional submenu.

Position finding
The navigation processor in the radio and navigation unit constantly compares the positioning results of the following 3 processes to calculate the most likely position:
- Basic position finding
- GPS position finding
- Map-based position finding

Route calculation
The route is calculated by the navigation processor in accordance with the specified destination, or automatically, after a deviation from the suggested route has taken place.
During the dynamic destination-oriented navigation system the route is automatically calculated by incorporating the traffic information from the Traffic Message Channel (TMC).
The calculated route is stored in the navigation processor.

Destination-oriented navigation
Destination-oriented navigation starts once the navigation processor has carried out the route calculation. 3 types of display can be selected for graphic destination-oriented navigation:
- With a map
- With a map and symbol display before turning-off points
- With a symbol display (sign symbols)

It is possible to change arbitrarily between the 3 types of presentation. In all instances the destination-oriented navigation is backed up by voice outputs over the vehicle speakers.

The navigation display will show "Please insert Navigation CD Type DX" if a navigation CD has not been inserted already. This notice is intended to ensure that the customer inserts the correct CD.
