Range, inquiry

Maximum distance that can be driven until refueling is required and the current fuel supply.

The trip computer (TRIP) allows the provisional range to be displayed.
The display appears from position 2 (circuit 15 ON) of the transmitter key (A8/1) depending on the setting (kilometers/miles) and national version coding of the instrument cluster (A1). The range is displayed in increments of one kilometer or one mile.
After activating the "Trip Computer" menu using the system selection button (S110s3), the driver presses the scroll forward/back button (S110s1) of the multifunction steering wheel to display the estimated range and the tank content on the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1).
To calculate the range the ration of tank capacity and average fuel consumption is formed. The fundamentals for the calculation are the data from the short distance memory. The following information is required:
- The current fuel level
- The average fuel consumption

The range is updated more frequently when the fuel level in the tank is in the reserve range. The reserve capacity used for these calculations may vary slightly from the reserve quantity in the fuel level and reserve display (A1p2) in the instrument cluster (A1).
The left tank half fuel level sensor (B4/1) and right tank half fuel level sensor (B4/2) are read in by the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/2) and the relevant message is passed on the class B (interior) controller area network bus (CAN-B). The instrument cluster (A1) receives this message, evaluates it and displays the corresponding value as the tank content. Updating takes place in steps of 1 l or 0.2 gal depending on the setting.
