COMAND Head Unit Software Update
Note:
As of December 1, 2004, this DTB must not be performed on the following vehicles:
Model 215 - Serial Nos. A044380 to A044861, Covered under Service Campaign No. 2004090004
Model 220 - Serial Nos. A442745 to A449194, Covered under Service Campaign No. 2004090004
Model 230 - Serial Nos. F077822 to F092641, Covered under Service Campaign No. 2004090005
Combining this DTB with the above referenced Campaigns will result in a charge back of this DTB.
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of the COMAND head unit exhibiting any of the following, the COMAND head unit software must be updated to version 43/04
^ No audio detected for a few seconds during startup when the head unit turns ON and the display is correct.
^ Intermittent audio cuts in and out during normal operation especially in FM/AM audio mode.
^ Gray map displayed in map mode or during active route guidance. In active route guidance, the voice recommendations are detected by the user.
^ In some cases an incoming call may not be accepted using the head unit "SEND" or "OK" hard keys, but the multi-function steering controls work correctly.
Note:
As of software version 30/04, the conditions below are resolved COMAND head unit reset at MOST wakeup.
^ Upon opening the vehicle door, the MB Star flashed on and off a couple of times. System not stable and head unit resets during normal operation.
The update process requires Star Diagnosis DVD 03/05 or newer and SDflash Telematics Release A211 827 84 59. The Star Diagnosis DVD must be kept in the Diagnosis' CD drive and the SDflash Telematics CD must be inserted into the COMAND head unit CD drive as prompted.
Note:
Ensure a steady power supply to the vehicle by connecting a battery charger. Turn all electrical consumers OFF. The update process will take about 30 minutes; power ON the head unit and DO NOT touch any buttons throughout the entire update process.
To update the COMAND head unit software follow the update procedure outlined below
1. Start Star Diagnosis
2. Insert DAS DVD version 03/05 or newer into Star Diagnosis CD drive
3. Select the correct vehicle model
4. Select Control units
5. Select Information and Communication
6. Select Audio, video, navigation and Telematics
7. Select COMAND-COMAND (display and operating unit)
8. Select Control unit adaptations
9. Select Control unit programming
10. Select SDflash Release CD
11. Select hard disc version: "select latest DAS software version"
12. If a newer COMAND head unit software is found on the DVD, a prompt will instruct you to load SDflash Telematics CD A211 827 84 59 into the head unit CD player
13. Follow the prompts from Star Diagnosis
14. Clear all fault codes (DTC's) after successful software update
After updating the head unit software, please check the software version which must be 43/04. To check the software version of the Head Unit
1. Select the correct vehicle model
2. Select control units
3. Select Information and Communication
4. Select Audio, video, navigation and Telematics
5. Select Comand/Audio
6. Select Control unit version
Note:
After a completed software update, the head unit may display Diagnosis" and in order to check the software version it may be necessary to go to Audio, video, navigation and Telematics" menu and select COMAND" again, otherwise Star Diagnosis may report COMMUNICATION ERROR".
