Campaign - Steering Rack Boot Inspection

MODEL 171, MODEL YEAR 2005

CHECK RACK AND PINION STEERING BOOTS AND REPLACE RACK AND PINION IF NECESSARY

This Service Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that on the affected vehicles (see VIN range below) the rubber boot on the rack and pinion may have been deformed during assembly.

Dealers are to check the boots and replace the rack and pinion if necessary.





Please review the Effective Serial Number chart shown and if necessary repair the subject vehicles during the vehicle's next service.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

^ Please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.

^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin.

Approximately 84 vehicles are affected.

PROCEDURE

1. Place vehicle on lift (refer to WIS:

AR00.60-P-1000V).

2. Remove center (lower) engine compartment panel.

3. Visually check both rack-and-pinion steering boots for damage:





^ If both boots are normal/undamaged (Figure 1), reinstall center engine compartment panel. No further work is necessary; campaign is complete.








^ If one or both bellows is/are deformed as shown (Figures 2, 3), proceed to next step.

4. Replace rack-and-pinion steering assembly (refer to WIS: AR46.20-P-0600V).

Note (applies to the above WIS instructions):

^ Step 10: Do not rotate tires.

^ Step 24: Does not apply to this campaign, Do not perform.

Repairs performed using any other part(s) will not have been performed in accordance with the campaign. Accordingly, warranty claims submitted with reference to an improper part number(s) will be denied.
