All volume and sound settings are carried out at the operating unit of the radio (A2). It is necessary to distinguish between audio sources and service sources:
Audio sources are:
- Radio tuner
- CD drive
Service sources include:
- Traffic messages
- Telephone system
- Voice control system (VCS)
Volume setting
The volume setting is regulated at the combination push and rotary button of the radio (A2) for each of the selected audio sources.
In addition, it can be set separately in all audio and service areas (telephone, traffic information radio channel). Via the "TP Vol." softkey assignment, it is possible to increase or decrease the volume for traffic information. Using the "Reset" function, predefined sound settings (bass and treble) can be reset to the manufacturer default settings.
Speed-dependent volume control (SDV)
The volume is adapted to the noise level in the passenger compartment by GAL and the automatic vehicle interior noise adaptation feature.
In the process the signal input to the sound amplifier microphone (B25/6) and the vehicle speed are used as reference values.
Mute
If the user presses the function key "Mute", the audio source currently being listened to is muted and the CD drive changes to a pause status.
The muting function status can also be triggered automatically. If the vehicle has a telephone system, the radio (A2) switches to telephone mode in the event of an incoming call and when the call is answered, and the audio source is muted.
Tone setting
The radio (A2) permits manual tone settings (bass, treble, balance, and fader) for each audio source. The "AUDIO" function state can be called up from every other function state, except "AUTO-ON".
The bass is shown on the display of the radio (A2) as the first sound setting called up. By pressing the "AUDIO" function key repeatedly, the other sound controls for treble, balance (left/right), fader (front/ rear), increased volume and traffic announcements can be called up. The messages of the "AUDIO" function state are output on the display. The tone control only relates to the active system function status.
With a change in sound emphasis (balance, fader) the relative ratio of the volume of the individual speakers changes. The settings "balance" and "fader" are called up by pressing the main function key for sound distribution in the left control field of the radio (A2). Processing of the signals for the required volume and tone adjustments is performed by the radio (A2).
