Expansion Valve: Service and Repair

AR83.30-P-5520P Remove/Install Expansion Valve
- with CODE (580a) Automatic air conditioning
- with CODE (581b) Convenience automatic air conditioning







DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning from inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury from skin and eye contact with liquid refrigerant.
- Do not carry out any welding work on the closed air conditioning system or in the surrounding area. No smoking or open flames. Wear eye protection and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been discharged.

CAUTION: Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work.

DANGER:
- Risk of injury by trapping or crushing, in extreme cases with loss of limbs when working on windshield wiper mechanism
- Always remove ignition key when working on windshield wiper mechanism.

1 Remove Wiper System
2 Remove drier cartridge

CAUTION:
- Installation: after the refrigerant circuit is opened replace drier cartridge.
- Installation: observe additional oil quantity after replacing parts.

3 Unscrew nut (1)
- Nut for expansion valve: 8 N.m

4 Remove pressure lines together with retaining plate (2)

CAUTION: Plug openings.

- See "Special Tools" given below.

CAUTION: Installation: Replace O-rings (moisten with compressor oil).

5 Unscrew bolts (arrows).

CAUTION: Installation: to avoid canting tighten bolts alternately.

- Screw for expansion valve: 10 N.m

6 Remove expansion valve (3)

CAUTION: Do not damage seal (4). Seal (4) can only be replaced after removing AC housing.

- Plug openings with appropriate plugs.

CAUTION: Installation: Replace O-rings

- Moisten threads and O-ring with compressor oil.

7 Install in the reverse order
8 Check air conditioning system for proper function.
