Soft Top Roof Stops When Partially Open

If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles that the roof stops when partially open (Figure 1), this may be caused by the restrictor in hydraulic line 15 at the connection to the left master cylinder. If the soft top can be manually moved towards the open position after it stops, this is further indication that the restrictor in line iSis the cause of this condition. The new line set contains lines 11, 12 and 15. Check that the restrictor is in place where line 15 connects to the left master cylinder and only install line 15. Install a new sealing ring where line 15 connects to the pump valve block.

1. Open trunk lid and remove left interior trim panel (Figure 2).

2. Open roof to position shown (Figure 3), either electrically or manually.

3. Unhook mesh panel (Figure 4) at rear and loosen Velcro fastening along the lower edge.

4. Detach gas spring at upper end (Figure 5, arrow).

5. Remove 2 screws on each side fastening the front of the partition panel (Figure 6, arrows) in place.

6. Remove roof block (Figure 4, arrow) and trim panel.

7. Disconnect line 15 (Figure 7, arrow) from master cylinder. Access will be easier if the rod end of the cylinder is disconnected.

8. Disconnect line 15 at hydraulic pump assembly (Figure 8, arrow).

9. Install new line 15 using a new sealing ring at the pump assembly.

10. Reassemble car in the reverse order.

11. Check for correct roof operation.
