Campaign No. 2006110005, November 2006

FILE:
SERVICE: GROUP 00 OF SERVICE INFORMATION BINDER
PARTS: GROUP I OF INFORMATION _ PARTS & ACCESSORIES BINDER

TO: ALL MERCEDES-BENZ CENTERS

SUBJECT:
MODEL 211, MODEL YEAR 2006

REWORK PVC SEAM AT TAIL LAMP

This Service Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that on the affected vehicles (see VIN range on the following page) the PVC seam under the rear tail lamps may not have been correctly applied. This could lead to water intrusion into the luggage compartment and rear tail lamp. Dealer will rework the PVC seam to correct the condition.

Please review the Effective Serial Number chart located on the following page, and if necessary, repair the subject vehicles during the vehicle's next service.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

- Please check VMI to insure the vehicle is involved and to determine if the vehicle has been previously repaired.

- Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin.

Approximately 29 vehicles are affected.

NOTE:
Every vehicle in the VIN range may not be included in the campaign. VMI must always be checked before performing campaigns to verify that the campaign is required on a specific vehicle. VMI always overrides the bulletin in reference to a specific vehicle's inclusion in a particular campaign. Please also note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Procedure

A. INSPECT PVC SEAMS UNDER SIDEWALL TAIL LAMPS

1. Remove both sidewall tail lamps; refer to WIS document AR82.10-P-4920T.

2. Inspect PVC seams (A and B, Figure 1).

- If the PVC seams have been painted with a brush (A, Figure 1): Reinstall tail lamps; this campaign has been completed.

- If the PVC seams have not been painted with a brush (B, Figure 1), proceed to Subject B.

B. REWORK PVC SEAMS UNDER SIDEWALL TAIL LAMPS

1. Remove PVC seam along the tail lamp hole (A, Figure 2).
- Use the Stripe Off Wheel (Figure 3) to remove PVC residue ensuring a flat surface.

NOTE:
The Stripe Off Wheel is available from 3M(TM) (part number 07498). It should be procured from your local 3M(TM) jobber.

CAUTION:
Do NOT damage the sheet metal, as it may lead to corrosion.

2. Paint area underneath removed PVC seam around tail lamp hole (A, Figure 2) using touch-up paint pen.

NOTE:
Ensure to thoroughly cover the area with the touch-up paint pen, as an unpainted area may lead to corrosion.

3. Apply a thin layer of sealing compound to tail lamp gasket (A, Figure 4).

4. Reinstall sidewall tail lamps, again referring Figure 4 to WIS document AR82.10-P-4920T.

NOTE:
- Please be aware that only the part number(s) referenced in the Campaign Bulletin is approved for use to repair the vehicle. Repairs performed using any other part(s) will not have been performed in accordance with the campaign. Accordingly, warranty claims submitted with reference to an improper part number(s) will be denied.
- The following allowable labor operation should be used when submitting a warranty claim for this repair:
