DANGER:
- Lethal injuries are possible if vehicle slips off of lifting platform.
- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
- Risk of explosion from hydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury to eyes and skin suffering caustic burns from battery electrolyte or from contact with damaged lead acid batteries.
- No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
1 Disconnect ground cable of battery.
NOTE: Do not connect quiescent current retention unit!
2 Remove the cover of the fuse and relay box (F1)
CAUTION: Installation: Check rubber seal in cover, replace if necessary.
3 Remove the connectors (1, 2, 3) at the motor electronics control module (N3/10).
4 Disconnect connectors (4, 5, 6).
5 Detach rubber seal (7).
6 Pull out the wiring harness (8) from the fuse and relay box (F1) and the splash panel (9).
NOTE: Place wiring harness down on engine.
7 Detach left engine ground (W11/3) from the longitudinal member.
8 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling.
9 Separate terminal block of circuit 30 (X4/37).
NOTE: For this remove heat shield (10) and swing open the protective cap (11) in the direction of the arrow.
10 Release electrical connector of the left and right oxygen sensor upstream of the three-way catalytic converter (G3/302x1, G3/4x1) from the retaining clamps and remove.
NOTE: Release electric supply leads from the retaining clamps.
11 Release electrical connector of the left and right oxygen sensor downstream of the three-way catalytic converter (G3/502x1, G3/6x1) from the retaining clamps and remove.
NOTE: Release electric supply leads from the retaining clamps.
12 Unscrew ground lead (W11/5) from transmission.
13 Separate plug connection of reversing light switch (X49/1)
- TRANSMISSION 716 except Sequentronic automated manual transmission CODE (424).
14.1 Remove the heat shield (105g) and separate connector of electronic transmission control (X22/19)
- Transmission 722
NOTE: Installation: Install new O-ring.
14.2 Remove heat shield (12) and detach both the automated manual transmission connectors, two-pin (X22/18) as well as 18-pin(X22/17).
- In case of Sequentronic automated manual transmission Code (424)
NOTE: Installation: Insert the shackle (12a) of the heat shield (12) in the recess clearance (12b).
15 Install in the reverse order.
16 Read out fault memory and erase if necessary.
NOTE: Stored faults must be processed and erased in the fault memories after completing the work. The stored faults can be a result of defective components, assembly as well as cables removed during test activities and due to a simulation.
17 Perform basic programming.
