Remove/Install Chain Tensioner

1 Connect quiescent current retention device

DANGER:
- Risk of explosion from explosive gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns from swallowing battery electrolyte. Risk of injury through burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries.
- No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking.
- Wear protective gloves, acid-resistant clothing and safety glasses. Pour battery electrolyte only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.


2 Disconnect ground cable of battery

NOTE:
- Turn key in electronic ignition switch EIS into position "0". Key cannot be withdrawn.
- Vehicle fitted with code (889) Keyless-GO: Switch off engine, remove Keyless Go cards from the vehicle and keep outside the range of the transmitter.
- Installation: Read out fault memory after connecting, adjust time display on combination instrument, code radio, normalize power window and activate steering angle sensor.
- Vehicles with stationary heater: Adjust time display on stationary heater.



3 Unclip and remove engine cover (8)
4 Slacken coolant expansion tank and place to the side
5 Remove air intake pipe

NOTE: Only on right-hand side.

6 Remove poly V-belt of supercharger

NOTE: Only model 211.076, 215.374, 220.074, 230.474.

7 Remove poly V-belt
8 Pinch off electrical connections of generator
9 Unscrew bolts (1) and place generator (G2) to the side
10 Take chain tensioner (6) off timing case cover (5)

NOTE: Installation: Replace seal (7).

11 Install in the reverse order
12 Render electrical system operational

NOTE: Perform basic programming (normalize windows and sliding roof, etc.).
