- with CODE (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation)
Activating the overall system
Position 0 (key inserted)
In order to ensure a quicker switch-on process only the bus systems are activated for t = 3 minutes by inserting the remote control key (A8/1) in the EIS control module (N73), position circuit 15C. If the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) is switched on using the ON button (ON/OFF), automatic cutout occurs after 30 minutes.
Position 1 (radio setting)
By turning remote control key (A8/1) in position 1 (cl.15R. ON) the unit is switched on if it was switched on before the remote control key (A8/1) was removed the last time. It remains in operation until the remote control key (A8/1) is removed again.
The function options are restricted to:
^ Operation of the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3)
^ LCD displays in instrument cluster (A1)
^ Operation via the multifunction steering wheel
Position 2 (ignition)
All the functions in the vehicle are operational by continuing to turn the remote control key (A8/1) into position 2 (circuit 15 ON). The system active before the last switch-off (e.g. COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3)) is switched on and the corresponding basic menu is displayed. If the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) was switched off for longer than 30 minutes, a warning menu with general information on the use of the system appears.
Position 3 (engine start)
When remote control key (A8/1) is in position 3 (c. 50 ON) the engine is started. If a considerable voltage drop occurs while the engine is being started, the system switches itself off during the engine start, and is switched on again after the on-board electrical system has stabilized.
ON/Off characteristics
Navigation system activation
If the driver's door is opened the navigation is activated automatically via the controller area network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B). This procedure has a duration of approx. 2s. The display on the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) remains switched off.
If then no status change occurs at the EIS control module (N73) (e.g. c. 15C or c. 15R ON), the navigation remains activated for t = 60 minutes.
Procedure for operating ON/OFF button
The COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) can also be switched on with the remote control key removed (A8/1) (c. 15C OFF) by pressing the "ON button (ON/OFF)" on the rotary switch. All functions are then available for t = 30 minutes. The system switches off automatically once 30 minutes have elapsed. If the system has switched off after 30 minutes, the system can be switched on again by pressing the ON button. The cycle of 30 minutes then starts from the beginning.
On/Off characteristics via AUTO-ON
If a telephone call or an SMS is received the telecommunications control module (N112) or the UPCI control module (universal portable cellular telephone) (B123/1) is activated during the shut- off delay of the media-oriented system transport (MOST). The system components are "woken up". The MOST is ready for operation to provide the necessary functions
Switching off takes place either via the ON button (ON/OFF) or by removing the remote control key (A8/1) (c. 15c OFF). An active phone call is not interrupted by removing the remote control key (A8/1). In this case, the COMAND system switches itself off itself.
Switch off characteristics
The COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) is switched off at "c. 15C OFF" Then the navigation system run-on time of t = 60 min starts (standby mode). During this period all the important locating parameters are stored.
The COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) and the Audio gateway control module (N93/1) are always in the standby mode, hen CAN-B is active
Switch off characteristics at undervoltage
The central computer of the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) constantly monitors battery voltage. Depending on the voltage value the system will act as follows:
If the battery voltage drops below 11.5 V (battery warning range), a message appears in the display and requests that the engine be started.. If the engine is not started, a further warning follows after t = 3 min. that approx.10 seconds remain for starting the engine before the device switches off. In this case switching on the engine prevents the system from being automatically shut down. If the system has switched off and the voltage again rises to above 11.5 V, the COMAND system does not switch back on automatically.
If a system has been shut down it can be switched back on again manually. However, the warning procedure is always accomplished as long as the fault has not been eliminated.
Battery voltage below 9.5 V (undervoltage)
The COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) is automatically put into a defined standby condition in which only the battery voltage is monitored. In addition to this the current operating status is stored. In this condition COMAND cannot be operated or made to respond via STAR DIAGNOSIS Communication with external components does not take place.
