Operating elements
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) contains a graphics/and video-capable 6.5"-color display for presenting the relevant information as well as the function keys for operating the system. Part of the controls are assigned with permanent functions, i.e. they always trigger the same reaction irrespective of the screen applied in each case. The functionality of the remaining controls depends on the current screen. The components intreated in the system are connected with one another via media-oriented system transport (MOST). As a result the components do not need any individual controls.
It is necessary to observe that all data and signals are transmitted by media-oriented system transport (MOST) The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) is equipped with an integral multi-standard disk drive for Video DVD, Audio CD and MP3 CD-ROM.
Graphic editing and image output
The graphic subsystem edits and outputs the operating displays. The operating displays are transmitted internally to the display by the graphic subsystem via the RGB-output (R = red, G = green, B = blue).
The information and amplitudes of the three basis colors red, green and blue as well as a synchronization signal are contained in the RGB signal.
The electronic circuitry in the display unit evaluates the RGB signal and actuates the individual display pixels line by line in terms of color and intensity.
A horizontal synchronization pulse occurs at the end of each line. Then the electronic circuitry of the display actuates the next line.
Display
On the 6.5" color display of the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3), the submenus are displayed depending on the choice of the permanently programmed main function keys (function groups). 5 function key are positioned on the left and right edge of the display. The keys are positioned so that the submenus displayed can be selected easily.
Offboard diagnosis, STAR DIAGNOSIS
The COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) has its own diagnostic trouble code memory.
When checking the diagnostic trouble code memory by means of STAR DIAGNOSIS, the data are transmitted to the audio gateway control unit (N93/1) via media-oriented system transport (MOST) and can then be read out via the interface of the central gateway control unit (N93). Output of the errors on the display unit is not possible.
