GF07.61-P-0001VA Motor Electronics (ME-SFI) Fuel Injection and Ignition System, Function
GF07.61-P-0001VA Motor Electronics (ME-SFI) Fuel Injection And Ignition System, Function
- up to model year 08
Component Identification:
The ME 9.7 fuel injection and ignition system is an advance development of the ME 2.8. The abbreviated designation ME-SFI 9.7 means:
M = Motronic (motor electronics)
E = Electronic accelerator pedal
9.7 = Version 9.7
In engine control unit, the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10), the following function are consolidated:
^ Ignition system
^ Injection system
^ Electronic accelerator
^ Idle speed control
^ Torque interface
^ Diagnosis and fault storage
^ Gateway between the drive CAN and the chassis CAN
^ Immobilizer and drive authorization
^ Evaporative emission control system (for United States of America with leak test)
^ Fuel supply
^ Starter control
^ Fan control
^ Secondary air injection
^ Emission control
The ME-SFI [ME] control unit evaluates the following basic information:
^ Air mass
^ Coolant temperature
^ Engine speed/crankshaft position
^ Smooth operation of the engine (misfire detection)
^ Throttle valve position
^ Accelerator pedal position
^ O2 sensor signals
^ Intake manifold pressure
^ Intake air temperature
^ Outside air temperature
^ Air pressure (altitude)
^ Inlet and exhaust camshaft position
^ Vehicle speed (via CAN)
^ Steering angle (via CAN)
^ Alternator interface
^ Knocking of engine
^ Brake recognition (via CAN)
^ Oil level
The ME-SFI [ME] control unit receives and transmits data via the following data buses:
^ Interior CAN
^ Drive train CAN
^ Diagnostic CAN
^ Chassis CAN
^ Central CAN
^ LIN (Local interconnect Network) for alternator interface.
The central gateway control unit (N93) controls the data traffic (gateway) between interior CAN, diagnostic CAN, chassis CAN and central CAN.
The engine control unit is the gateway between the drive CAN and the chassis CAN.
The ME-SFI [ME] control unit is flashable. The software required to program the control units is provided on the DAS Update DVD.
