INSTALL SATELLITE DIGITAL AUDIO RADIO (SDAR)
This Service Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that the affected vehicles were unintentionally delivered without Satellite radio. Dealers will install the Satellite Digital Audio Radio. (SDAR) in the customer's vehicle.
Prior to performing this Service Campaign:
^ Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired.
^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the procedure steps exactly as described.
Shown in this bulletin is a sample copy of a letter which owners of the affected vehicles will receive.
Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.
Approximately 87 vehicles are affected.
Procedure
1. Disconnect ground cables of both batteries; refer to WIS document AR54.10-P-0003SX.
2. Remove left trunk lining and remove paneling from inside of trunk lid; refer to WIS document AR68.30-P-4600SX.
3. Install SDAR receiver (A, Figure 1) into trunk recess.
^ Mount SDAR receiver to bracket and connect wiring harness; use
three M5 nuts.
^ Fasten wiring harness to bracket using provided clamp.
^ Mount SDAR receiver with bracket to trunk recess; use two M6 nuts on bottom of well and one screw on top (arrow).
4. Route new wiring harness (A, Figure 2).
^ Using yellow marks (arrows, Figure 2), line up new wiring harness with existing wiring harness and secure them together using cable ties.
^ Route new harness along existing harness behind trunk lid and secure using cable ties.
^ Cut tape of new harness in circled area and detach MOST wires from electrical wires to ensure harness has enough slack.
^ Connect ground (brown wire) of new wiring harness to chassis ground stud W6 (A, Figure 3).
5. Disconnect voice control module connector and remove voice control module bracket (B, Figure 2).
6. Connect Power and Wake Up wires of new harness (A, Figure 4) and voice control module (B).
^ Cut voice control module Power (red, B1) and Wake Up (orange, B2) wires about 6 inches from connector end.
^ Splice new harness Power (red/white, A1) and Wake Up (orange, A2) with voice control module Power and Wake up wires (see table shown); use supplied cable connectors (part # A 002 546 14 41).
Note:
Connect cables as follows:
7. Reinstall voice control module bracket (B, Figure 2) leaving voice control module connector disconnected.
8. Connect fiber optic (MOST) cables using voice control module (VCS) and configure MOST ring.
(voice control module MOST connector)
^ Disconnect MOST cables from VCS (Figure 5; A, Figure 7), if connected.
^ In MOST connector of VCS, disconnect MOST Transmit Tx cable (A, Figure 5).
(New wiring harness MOST connector)
^ Connect VCS Transmit TX cable (A) to MOST coupler (B, Figure 6) of new wiring harness.
^ Lock MOST coupler (B) with MOST coupler housing (A).
^ Connect Tx cable for new wiring harness (Figure 6) into empty slot of VCS MOST connector (A, Figure 5).
^ Reconnect VCS MOST and electrical connectors to VCS.
^ Use cable ties to secure MOST cables as necessary, ensuring cables do not bend beyond 25 mm radius.
Note:
^ Figure 8 shows the completed MOST ring.
^ When configuring the MOST ring, the component order is as follows: COMAND > Sound amplifier > SDAR > MHI > Voice control.
9. Start up system to check for MOST ring lock.
Note:
If no audio is present, it is possible that the MOST ring is open.
10. Install SDAR antenna (A, Figure 9) into trunk lid.
11. Connect antenna line (B, Figure 9; blue/pink Fakra connector), secure to trunk side, and route to left along existing wiring harness (C).
12. Route antenna line along bracket of trunk lid (as shown in Figure 10) and fasten to original wiring harness.
13. Assemble in reverse order.
^ After reconnecting battery ground cables, referring to AR54.10-P-0003SX, perform basic programming.
14. Connect Star Diagnosis.
15. Follow the DAS path "AGW control unit / Control unit adaptations / Read coding and change if necessary / Specified configuration of MOST components."
^ Ensure following check boxes are selected in DAS: Tuner Sound, Satellite Radio, Cellular Telephone, and Voice Control.
16. Read out and erase fault memory.
17. Disconnect Star Diagnosis.
18. Check proper function of Satellite radio and signal reception.
Note:
The vehicle must be outdoors for this step.
19. Locate fuse allocation chart in vehicle tool kit stored in trunk.
20. On chart locate "Satellite Radio" and cross out "107" write in "149" in its place.
Note:
Satellite radio is now sharing the voice control module fuse 149. Fuse 107, the dedicated satellite radio fuse, is only available with factory SDAR installations.
Parts Information
Note:
^ Please be aware that only the part number(s) referenced in the Campaign Bulletin is approved for use to repair the vehicle.
