Location
The front lamp units are located at the front of the vehicle.
Infrared lamp (for code (610) Night View Assist)
The infrared lamps are installed instead of the high beam lamps. The traffic lane in front of the vehicle is illuminated by infrared light which is invisible to the human eye. The Night View Assist camera (B84/2) located in the overhead control panel control unit (N70) records the course of the road.
The pictures from the night view assist camera are displayed in the instrument cluster (A1).
The infrared light is generated by halogen lamps. The beam path has a filter integrated into it to filter out the portion of light in the visible area.
Automatic headlamp range adjustment (HRA [LWR]), dynamic curve illumination (for code (615) Bi-xenon headlamp unit with integrated curve illumination)
The automatic headlamp range adjustment (HRA [LWR]) and the dynamic curve illumination are regulated by stepper motors that are installed in the lamp units.
^ The left headlamp range adjustment motor (E1m1) is integrated in the left front lamp unit and the right headlamp range adjustment motor (E2m1) is integrated in the right front lamp unit for the automatic headlamp range adjustment (HRA LWR]).
^ The left dynamic curve illumination motor (E1m2) is installed in the left front lamp unit and the right dynamic curve illumination motor (E2m2) is installed in the right front lamp unit for dynamic curve illumination.
Motorway lights, extended fog light function
(for code (622) Intelligent Light System (right-hand traffic)
The motorway lights are realized by increasing the light output of the bi-xenon lights and by raising the left headlamp unit using the headlamp range adjustment motor. On vehicles without code (610) Night View Assist, the high beam lights are additionally switched on.
To realize the extended fog light function, the headlamp unit of the left front lamp unit is swiveled outwards by 8° and lowered. To this end, the xenon headlamp control unit on the left front lamp unit actuates the dynamic curve illumination motor and the headlamp range adjustment motor accordingly.
