Campaign - Intake Manifold Replacement/ECM Update

CHECK INTAKE MANIFOLD AND REPLACE IF NECESSARY; INSTALL UPDATED ENGINE CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE (M273 ENGINE)

This Service Campaign has been initiated because DCAG has determined that on affected vehicles engine running characteristics can be improved with the installation of a modified intake manifold. Dealers will check the production date of the intake manifold and replace if necessary. Additionally, updated engine control module software will also be installed in all affected vehicles.

Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

^ Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously repaired. If necessary, repair the subject vehicle during the vehicle's next service.

^ Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the procedure steps exactly as described.

Please note that Recall and Service Campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator.

Approximately 11,352 vehicles are affected.

Procedure

A. CHECK INTAKE MANIFOLD

1. Remove both engine air intake ducts.

2. Model X164 only: Remove strut tower brace; refer to WIS document
AR62.30-P-2500GY.

3. Remove air filter housing; refer to one of the following WIS documents, depending on vehicle model:

^ Model 211/219: AR09.10-P-1150TS
^ Model 221: AR09.10-P-1150SX
^ Model 230: AR09.10-P-1150RX
^ Model X164: AR09.10-P-1150GZA.

4. Detach engine control module from bracket, keeping electrical connectors connected.

5. Check production date of intake manifold (A, Figure 1).

6. Perform one of the following:

^ Manifold production date up to and including 30/SEPT/05: Proceed to Subject B to replace manifold.

^ Manifold production date between (and including) 01/OCT/05 and 28/FEB/06: Proceed to Subject C to install engine control module software.

B. REPLACE INTAKE MANIFOLD

1. Replace intake manifold; refer to one of the following WIS documents, depending on vehicle model:

^ Model 211/219: AR09.20-P-1961TS
^ Model 221: AR09.20-P-1961SX
^ Model 230: AR09.20-P-1961R
^ Model X164: AR09.20-P-1961GZA.

2. Proceed to Subject C to install engine control module software.

C. INSTALL ENGINE CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE

Note - Prior to starting the procedure ensure to:
Use DAS version 10/2006 or higher with all associated patches
Follow the steps exactly as described in DAS
Connect battery charger

1. Connect Star Diagnosis.

2. Install engine control module software.
^ Follow the DAS path "Control unit adaptations/Control unit programming" and on-screen instructions.

Note:
If the "No newer control module software was found" message appears when attempting to flash the control module, proceed to step 4.

3. Perform SCN/CVN coding of engine control module.

^ Follow the DAS path "Control unit adaptations/Variant coding" and on-screen instructions.

4. Disconnect Star Diagnosis.

^ Please be aware that only the part number(s) referenced in the Campaign Bulletin is approved for use to repair the vehicle. Repairs performed using any other part(s) will not have been performed in accordance with the campaign. Accordingly, warranty claims submitted with reference to an improper part number(s) will be denied.

^ Please note that the information in the most current versions of EPC and StarTime supersedes the parts and warranty information in the Campaign Bulletin.

^ The following allowable labor operation should be used when submitting a warranty claim for this repair:
