1 Open glove box lid, unclip glove compartment lamp (E13/1) from glove box (13) and place to one side.
2 Push aside insulation material on rear of glove box (13) in area (A) through opening for glove compartment lamp (E13/1) and check whether there are wiring harnesses in this area.
A hole is drilled in area (A). Fix existing wiring harnesses in place appropriately to prevent them from being damaged when the hole is drilled.
3 Make a mark on glove box (13) as illustrated and drill hole with a diameter of 20 mm.

Dimension:
a = 20 mm (distance between hole and reference edge (arrow B))
4 Clip glove compartment lamp (E13/1) into glove compartment (13).
5 Lead iPod wiring harness (8) to the outside through previously drilled hole and route along existing wiring harnesses to installation opening of COMAND controller unit.
6 Plug hole with grommet (12) on iPod wiring harness (8).

7 Cover center console with a clean rag and expose both fiber optic cables on vehicle wiring harness (arrow C).
8 Remove fiber optic cable coupling (14) from black 20-pin coupling (3) and install at same position in black 20-pin coupling (5) of iPod interface wiring harness (2).
9 Fix both fiber optic cables in place approx. 50 mm behind fiber optic cable coupling (14) on iPod interface wiring harness (2) using insulation tape.
10 Assemble black 20-pin coupling (3) and black 20-pin connector (4) and then wind felt tape around everything.
11 Set down iPod interface (1) on center console.
12 Connect black 18-pin coupling (6) to iPod interface (1) and lock in place.
13 Connect black iPod wiring harness coupling (9) to iPod interface (1).
14 Assemble white 2-pin coupling (11) on iPod wiring harness (8) with white 2-pin connector (7) on iPod interface wiring harness (2) and wind felt tape around everything.
